The region of the Battlefields of North Western KwaZulu Natal is the historical back ground of numerous reknown people. Winston Churchill was arrested here, the Prince Royal of France ws killed here, Zulu's defeated the British, and vice versa. The Afrikaaners fought against the British in two large wars. Hence for more then fifty years blood drained the soil of this part of the province.

Remaining tody are important historical sights and memorials of various battles, and also important towns such as Dundee, Ladysmith and Estcourt.
